Easterseals MORC Helps Young Man Get More Out of Life

If you ask Justin’s peers, they’ll describe him as friendly and genuine. He’s also an avid sports fan, enjoys listening to music, and watching movies. He also enjoys spending time with his friends and family and loves to be outside.

When Justin was 18, he began receiving mental health services at Easterseals MORC. Dr. Duquette, a psychiatrist at Easterseals MORC, has been on Justin’s treatment team since he began his journey at Easterseals MORC, explains how Justin has grown into a very helpful and outgoing man.

“Justin has participated in every treatment, support, and process that Easterseals MORC has to offer,” Dr. Duquette said. “He has always been compliant even as he went through his early 20’s and was trying to navigate different ways to keep a balance in his life.”

While receiving services at Easterseals MORC, Justin has been involved in the young adult’s group which has helped him to understand more about himself. Along the way, he’s made friends in these groups and has always been willing to lend a helping hand and support his peers in any way he can.

“I have learned a lot from the people in groups and all of the case managers I’ve worked with,” Justin said. “The programs I’ve been part of and people in groups and the staff I work with have helped me to open up more and be able to take control of my life.”

Justin has become innovative to find ways to practice newfound skills in his daily life. Because of his mental health, he has had to get creative with different employment opportunities. Some for income, but a lot for the neighborliness and helping him maintain balance in his life.

“I now understand a lot more about what I can do,” Justin said. “I’ve come to an understanding that having a mental illness isn’t bad. I just get to learn how to handle it.”

Dr. Duquette explained that Justin has become a great role-model for his younger siblings, and he continues to grow into a responsible, friendly, and genuine individual.

“Justin has never missed a beat when offered chances to learn and grow,” Dr. Duquette said. “I’ve seen him push the limits of his mental health to become an independent, hardworking and genuine young man.”
