Meet April!

When April was 14 months old, she was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, a degenerative muscle disease causing impaired mobility and activities of daily living, eating difficulties, difficulty breathing, eating and chronic respiratory insufficiency. She is wheelchair bound, unable to crawl, sit up on her own, stand, bathe herself or even comb her own hair. April has never allowed any of these deficiencies to stop her from enjoying life.

She is a very active first grader who dreams of being a princess ballerina; loves all things pink, purple and glittery; and adores Disney princesses. She also loves bowling, dancing and playing baseball.

What you don’t realize, is that April enjoys these activities with a very special group of friends that play and dance with her in the Easterseals MORC's Miracle League of Michigan. Her family turned to Easterseals to keep April active and social. The results have been life changing.

“Playing with others like her, others not like her and others who see no differences at all, makes the Miracle League an organization second to none,” said Andrea, April’s mom. “April now asks if we can go bowling outside of the league and started ballet class recently; so now she can say she’s a baseball player, a bowler, a ballerina and anything else she decides she wants to be.”
