Dreams Unlimited Clubhouse Helps Man Find Structure, Support, and Confidence
In his free time, Jimmie enjoys tapping into his creativity and drawing portraits of his friends and family. He is also a Detroit Lions fan and enjoys watching and playing sports, especially football.
Jimmie has been a member of Easterseals MORC’s Dreams Unlimited Clubhouse (DUC) for a little over two years. He says his favorite parts about the clubhouse are the overall energy of the clubhouse and the people.
“I enjoy the vibe at clubhouse,” Jimmie said. "Mimicking a work ordered day allows me to be productive and helps to bring structure into my life. I also really enjoy the camaraderie of the clubhouse and the friendships I have made.”
Lyndsey Shelby, Clubhouse Manager at Dreams Unlimited Clubhouse, said that Jimmie originally started coming to the clubhouse to be around people. Fast forward two years, and he can often be found helping new members feel welcome and joining various clubhouse activities.
“Jimmie is a leader at the clubhouse,” Lyndsey said. “Since he became a member of the Clubhouse, he’s been a friend to many, helps new members to feel more comfortable and acclimated, and is a huge asset wherever he is needed.”
In 2022, Jimmie represented Easterseals MORC’s DUC when he attended the Clubhouse International Seminar in Maryland. This seminar hosted over 600 stakeholders of Clubhouses from 14 countries and 32 states for various workshops and networking opportunities.
“The Clubhouse International Seminar was an overall great experience that I am glad I was able to be part of,” Jimmie said. “I met people from around the world who had similar experiences as me and felt the same love for the clubhouse experience. I learned a lot and was intrigued by the Clubhouse Standards. Before Dreams, I didn’t know that people experiencing mental health issues gathered and grew together.”
Thanks to DUC, Jimmie was able to find structure and routine in his life. He shared how he has changed for the better since becoming a member of the Clubhouse and how the skills he has learned will help him pursue his dreams.
“Easterseals MORC and DUC helped me to find normality in life,” Jimmie said. “They’ve helped me find the right medication and have taught me important computer and customer service skills that will help me in my future.”
Jimmie is currently pursuing his associate degree and is on the hunt for a job to further become the best version of himself. He shared his excitement for what his future holds and explained how his productivity has increased over the past few years.
