Meet Kayden!

“Kayden is a very active and involved kid,” said Kay, Kayden’s mother. “He enjoys learning, trying new things, and is very talented. He’s taken a big interest in making videos for Good Morning Detroit commercials and singing and reading the bible at church.”

Kayden has been playing for Easterseals MORC’s Miracle League since 2018. Kay shared that her favorite part of being involved with Miracle League’s adaptive programming is getting to watch and help her son participate in a sport. 

“My son gets to wear a real baseball uniform,” Kay said. “He gets to earn a trophy and be on a team. He’s included, and having the opportunity is something I will be forever grateful for." 

At Easterseals MORC’s Miracle League, the children are the headliners, the stars of the show. Each game day brings a big-league experience, complete with walk-up music and each athlete’s name called from the announcer’s booth. 

“Kayden’s walk-up song is ‘I Feel Good,’ by James Brown,” Kay said. "Kayden received the nickname, ‘Smiles,’ because of his contagious and wonderful smile. He’s also made great progress in hitting the ball since he started and has made some great friendships with his teammates, too!” 

Easterseals MORC’s Miracle League started over 20 years ago, becoming Michigan’s first adaptive baseball field, in the heart of Southfield. Since then, the league has grown significantly, adding a new field in Orion Township in 2019 and now managing the Miracle League of Greater Flint field in Mundy Township. The program has also expanded beyond baseball, now offering bowling, hockey, and skating skills, adaptive fitness, fun social events, and family gatherings, with even more activities on the way.

“Everyone we have worked with at the Miracle League has made a positive impact on our experience,” Kay said. “The entire team and coaches have made my son feel safe, welcomed, and truly cared for.
