Meet Matthew!

When you ask Denise and Thomas, Matthew’s parents about their son, they will share that he’s always willing to help others. 

“Our son, Matthew, has always been kind and compassionate,” Denise said. “He is a genuine person, always checking in to see how people are doing, asking where he can help, and looking for ways to get involved.” 

In addition to volunteering in his community, Matthew enjoys spending time with friends and family, swimming, surfing the internet, playing video games, listening to music, and taking care of his dog.  

“Before being adopted at the age of five, I was living at an orphanage in Bulgaria where I was mostly confined to my bed,” Matthew said. “Now, with my parents and Easterseals MORC in my corner I’ve been able to accomplish many of my goals, find confidence, and be involved in things I never thought I would get the chance to.”  

Matthew shared about challenges he faced in his early childhood years and how he overcame those hurdles, ultimately finding strength.  

"When I was younger, I had trouble walking and was experiencing mental health issues,” Matthew said. “My parents helped me get the support I needed at Easterseals MORC, where I receive physical, occupational, and speech therapies as well as counseling services. 

In addition to the services he received, Matthew shared how one Easterseals MORC team member helped him gain confidence.  

“Dr. Cho never gave up on me, even in the most difficult times,” Matthew said. “She was compassionate and always pushed me in ways that would make me grow and thrive as a person. Dr. Cho helped me believe in myself and helped me find confidence.” 

Denise and Thomas expressed their gratitude to the team members and services at Easterseals MORC that have had a positive impact on Matthew’s life, as well as their own. 

"Easterseals MORC has many services to help make lives easier,” Denise said. “We’re grateful that Matthew has been able to receive services at Easterseals MORC. He's come a long way since he started, and we're so proud of him!"
