Some Medicaid rules are changing on January 1, 2027. Not everyone will be affected, and many people will keep their coverage. The most important thing you can do now is watch for notices, keep your information updated, and ask for help right away if you do not understand something.
What is changing?
Starting in 2027, some Medicaid members may have new rules to follow. These changes mainly affect adults ages 19–64 who have the Healthy Michigan Plan. Changes may include:
- Work or community engagement requirements for some Healthy Michigan Plan members
- Medicaid renewals every six months for Healthy Michigan Plan members
- A shorter retroactive coverage window if you lose coverage and reapply
To check your coverage type, you can:
- Look at your Medicaid approval letter
- Log in to MI Bridges and check “View Benefits”
- Call the State enrollment line at 1-888-367-6557
If you have Traditional Medicaid, receive SSI, SSDI, Medicare, or are on a Medicaid waiver, you may not have to follow the new work/community engagement or six-month renewal rules.
