Parent Navigators - NEW to Easterseals MORC!

What are parent navigators?

Parent navigators are an additional resource to a family when a child is enrolled with our school-based program. Their goal is to support the parent by connecting them to resources and education on services to overcome any barriers that they may be having in regard to behavioral health, or other needs such as housing, food, getting access to their own services and more.

There is no requirement regarding the number of appointments we set up, we do just ask that they complete a brief assessment with the parent navigator along with a pre and post survey to help us keep improving.

In addition to working with families individually, they are also starting to put out workshops and support groups for families (these can include families outside of the school-based services).

Currently we have workshops developed to provide education around the following topics:

  • Welcome Parents Workshop: this will provide an overview of the importance of being involved with treatment planning, how to make good use of the crisis plan, what types of EBP clinicians utilize and more!
  • Anxiety/Depression Workshop: Providing general information to parents on what this looks like for different age groups, and different easy to use tools for communication in the home.
  • Support Group for Parents: Will take place in different locations and topics will focus on trends being seen within that community. Will be a place where parents can connect on how to better communicate with their children, while incorporating psychoeducation.
